Kevin Bywater, Parkinson’s Wales Team member for whom The Vale Resort is his home course welcomes all golfers of all genders and levels of experience:
“After recent studies it has been agreed Golf is the best form of exercise to slow down the progression of Parkinson’s. Since I retired, and slowly built my confidence back, I now play golf at the Vale on average 4 times a week. I represent the Vale in matches for the Vets team that enables me to play other courses in Wales and meet other players.
It is a fully inclusive sport that enables those with Parkinson’s to compete at the same level as others without it. The mental side of golf being out in the open air, walking and conversing with other people can not be underestimated. I have days when I am very aware of my Parkinson’s and don’t feel like playing but once I am on the course all negative thoughts disappear as I am fully focused on the game. I played in the sports Parkinson’s event at the Belfry last year and was very proud to win the top golfer award with 36 points going round the Brabazon course.
I love golf and the benefits of playing and socialising, and would say to anyone with Parkinson’s that is thinking about playing, “grab that opportunity with both hands and relish in its benefits”
Welcome to the Vale
Welcome to the vale my home club in wales
Where a friendly welsh welcome never fails
With Parkinson’s golfers from all over the land
Working towards a cure hand in hand
Sport Parkinson’s have organised this competition
Bringing golfers together with the same ambition
Despite their condition they show great resource
As they take on the difficult National course
Birdies and eagles come to the fore
Defying the odds posting a great score
The winners are each player that takes part
Showing great courage and a strong heart
Parkinsons is the condition that can be fought all the way
With determination and guts to win each day
The golfers unite by joining in song
Keep healthy and strong til a cure comes along
