Hi I’m Graham Watkin and I was diagnosed with PD in 2011 at the age of 55.
I worked as a Computer Engineer for GEC until the recession hit in the early 1990’s, where I was then made redundant.
From that, in 1993 I was able to start my own successful Gallery and Framing Business in Aylesbury.
Then Parkinsons got in the way… and I had to take early retirement in 2018.
I like to keep busy and so does my better half like to keep me busy with a few small projects !
Despite PD I was able to complete an extension that we started a few years ago, put in a new kitchen, fit a new shower room and build a patio. Having now completed them the ‘kids’ have moved out !
Luckily for me I can now concentrate on my love of Golf, Classic Cars and Photography.
I was a member of Mentmore Golf Club until it’s closure a few years ago and stopped playing for a while.
The incentive to remain fit with PD encouraged me back to golf where I joined Chiltern Forest GC in Wendover.
I was fortunate to meet Ian and Les there and they introduced me to the Fighting Fit Parkinsons Football Club also.
It’s been a positive year for me despite the Pandemic.
Being able to play Golf and Football with fellow “Parkies” has been a massive boost to my health and well being. I Can almost forget about the PD for a few hours.
I had Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery in May this year and feel pretty good at the moment , the debilitating tremor has almost been eliminated but I can’t confirm it’s made my Golf any better yet !
It’s currently 21.
I’m really looking forward to knocking a little white ball around the prestigious Belfry. Another one off the bucket list .
Thankyou Sport Parkinson’s for organising this.
